Some years back, I came across someone whose philosophy was to work in each job, a maximum of three years. Once he came close to the three year self imposed deadline, he would change the job. No matter whether the job was good or bad, his policy was the same. In each place he went, it was at a higher salary than the earlier job and at a better position.

Another person who I met, told me he used to work in sales in a shipping company. Seeing that the workplace showed no place for growth, he left for a sales job in another shipping company. Two years later, the manager of the earlier company called him to take charge of sales in a new section that they were starting. The package that he was offered was very good and so he agreed. His friends, who had stayed put in the old company were still there at the earlier salary, conditions etc.

Maybe, there are cases where someone has worked in the same place for years on end and done well. But for every 1-2 such situations, there are 10 times more where employees have regretted not moving to greener pastures. Sometimes, we put off the decision until too late when skills, health and age close doors to good work situations.

As you try to come out of your shell, the ‘daily’ routines do not seem to end and the break in the routine, not visible.

If you happen to be driving, then the haphazard way of other drivers and near misses for collision as well as seeing pedestrian risking their lives on the roads when there is a pedestrian bridge some meters away, will make you glad to reach you destination safely and say “THANK GOD”. More so, if while driving, you see a big SUV speeding towards you and then at the last moment swerve and change lanes.

However, looking at the bright side, even if a little each day is what finally allows you to break out. Almost like a door slowly opening and giving you a view of the things outside and the wider picture as they say of life.

What about you? Have you ever been in such a situation.

Lies put us in a corner from which we cannot come out without loosing face. Once in this corner and especially if in power then being proved a liar would mean falling flat on your face. Of course not in all cases. In some countries, those in authority just brush past the truth with the media being harassed for speaking the truth.

In other cases, those (activists, opposition, journalists ) who reveal the truth and protest to have the guilty kicked out of job or power get beaten up, or entangled in counter claims or silenced one way or another. Vice versa, not necessary that the authorities lie. The truth can be sometimes hijacked by people or parties who for want of a better expression, marinate it with their own conjured facts to make their false claims appear to be true or just.

What does the word truth mean to you. Sometimes, it has unpleasant consequences which may be painful for the person telling the truth and beneficial to others. It begs the question, why bother with the truth, if you have to suffer as a consequence.

Other times, we have to fight for truth by way of protests including standing up to others.
