Holidays start

After the hectic schedule of secondary school, what with its accompany self imposed pressure of wanting the kids do well. The holidays are almost an anticlimax. The last two years with the extra classes and tuitions in preparation for the SSC exams kept a nonstop mental pressure with the final need on the kid to perform according to parents expectations. Saturday mornings were occupied with extra classes and almost every afternoon and evening with private coaching or tuitions.

Why are parents like this? Do this! do that!. As kids we used to hate being Kuwait City landscape compared to other kids whose behavior was supposedly better than us or whose grades were better…or even being compared to other siblings who were better in this or that. Now being on the other side of the coin, we do to our kids what was done to us.

Just a day into his holidays, my kid is already bored, but enjoyably bored. Bored this way is preferable to doing lessons. Playing Playstation and being on the internet has its limitations. What with the weather hot as it is, it is not comfortable outdoors in the mornings. He has some activities planned out which will start soon. The schools too have one-month morning Summer Clubs for students. The local churches have Friday Summer club activities planned. The evenings these days are taken up glued to the TV along with mother watching the 20-20 World Cricket cup.

Since a holiday abroad is not on the board this year, it is going to be an summer holiday with the heat, dust, TV and playstation with occasional outdoor playing… How do you or your kids spend or plan to spend their holidays.
